Urban Inspirations Quilt Show March 21 – 22, 2009
Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.) 2009 Raffle Quilt — Broadway Jane Our 2009 Raffle Quilt made its first appearance at the June 7, 2008 guild meeting. Broadway Jane is our interpretation of the quilt made by Jane A. Stickle in 1863, and made famous by author Brenda Manges Papadakis via her book Dear Jane: The Two Hundred Twenty-Five Patterns from the 1863 Jane A. Stickle Quilt. Brenda's book was first published in 1996 and is now in its 16th printing.
Detail views of the individual blocks are available from the larger picture of the quilt: ›› View a larger picture of the quilt This queen-size quilt (83"x83") consists of 169 four-inch-square unique and intricate blocks, and 52 border triangles. The patterns for the blocks and triangles come from Jane Stickle's original quilt. The vivid colors were chosen by the Empire Quilters' design committee. With this quilt we honor the traditions of quilters everywhere, and the colorful, complex, yet cohesive City of New York. The reverse side of the quilt is also a piece of art utilizing the same vivid colors, and the same mix of traditional and comtemporary. ›› View the back of the quilt. TicketsTickets are available! Special thanks goes to the committee who made the packets and oversaw the project: Jennifer Bigelow, Alice Brody, Betty Chen, Anna Foss, Anna Krassy, Kitty Squire and Pamela Leonard Wexler, and to experts Judy Doenias, Barbara Feinstein, Emily Klainberg and Diane Rode Schneck for their advice and hours of work toward the finished project. The quilting was generously donated by Little Red Quilt House in Connecticut (www.lrqh.com). We are grateful for this expert service, and we recommend them highly to anyone looking for professional quilters. The quilt photography was donated by Hamlin Rose Digital. A hearty Thank you to both of these faithful supporters of Empire Quilters in our missions of furthering the art of quilt making, and providing quilts and comfort to those in need around the greater New York City Area. Patricia Decker is our guild graphic designer-extraordinaire! Her help and talents are invaluable (and greatly appreciated!).
