Empire Quilters Block of the Month – September 2008

Camelot / September Star

9½ inch unfinished block (9" finished block)

Fabric colors: Green, Brown, Yellow and Ivory

Instructions:

• From the ivory, cut one 3½ x 3½ inch square for the center of the block.
• From the yellow and the ivory, cut one each 3-7/8 x 3-7/8 inch square. Place right sides together. Draw a diagonal line from one corner to the opposite corner. Sew ¼ inch on both sides of the line to form four 3½ x 3½ half square triangle squares for the corners of the block.
• From the green, cut two 3-7/8 x 3-7/8 inch squares and cut diagonally in half for four half square triangles to form part of the side blocks.
• From the brown and the ivory, cut one each 4¼ x 4¼ inch square. Cut each square diagonally twice to form four triangles each. Sew one brown and one ivory triangle together making to make one larger triangle. Do the same with the other three smaller triangles.
• Take these brown and ivory triangles and sew them to the green triangles to form four 3½ x 3½ inch squares.

Sew into rows:

1. One yellow and ivory square to a green, brown, and ivory square and that to another yellow and ivory square.
2. One green, brown, and ivory square to the center ivory square and that to another green, brown, and ivory square.
3. One yellow and ivory square to a green, brown, and ivory square and that to another yellow and ivory square.

Assemble rows:

Now sew #1 to #2 and that to #3 which results in the total 9½ x 9» inch unfinished Camelot / September Star.
