Shooting Star: 8" finished

Please use yellow for the six points of the star, red for the tail and blue for the sky.

You need:

  • 1 - 4½ inch yellow square for the center of the star
  • 1 - 2½ inch red square for the corner part of the tail
  • 3 - 2½ inch blue sky squares for the other three corners

For the half inch square triangles, you need:

  • 3 - 2 7/8 inch squares of blue fabric for the sky part of the half square triangle
  • 3 - 2 7/8 inch squares of yellow fabric for the star points of the half square triangle
  • 1 - 2 7/8 inch square of the blue sky fabric for the tail part of the half inch traingle
  • 1 - 2 7/8 inch square of red fabric for the tail part of the half inch triangle

To make the half inch triangles, draw a line on one square diagonally from one corner to the other and sew one blue sky square to one each of the yellow square or to the red square by stitching a quarter of an inch on both sides of the drawn line. Cut in half to form the half square triangles needed as shown above. The resulting squares of half square triangles should measure 2½ inches each.

Sew together as shown above to form a star with a fiery red tail.
