The January 2005 Block of the Month is a beauty! The finished block is 9½–inches, and is shown in Picture C.
Step 1: Cut the following pieces:
- 4 rectangles yellow fabric 5 x 2"
- 4 rectangles yellow 3½ x 2"
- 4 rectangles blue fabric 5 x 2"
- 4 rectangles blue 3½ x 2"
Step 2: Place yellow atop blue in L-shape and stitch diagonally as shown (Picture A), trim, iron open.
Step 3: Sew large yellow rectangle on top and blue on the bottom, as shown (Picture B). Make 4 of these mini-blocks.
Step 4: Sew the mini-blocks together as shown (Picture C).
Step 5: Admire your finished block!
This block is called a tesselation because the mini-blocks (Picture B) that make up the finished block can be combined in many different ways to make other interesting arrangements.
This block will make a stunning quilt, so make your blocks and bring them to the January 8, 2005 meeting.
